Botox has been shown effective in treatment of a number of varied medical conditions. Excessive sweating or Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by overactive sweat glands above and beyond the body’s normal requirement as a temperature regulator. If other treatments such as Antiperspirants and Deodorants are ineffective local Botox injection into the affected area such as underarms, hands and feet is very effective in impairing sweat gland function. Chronic Headaches including Migraines not fully controlled with medical treatment often respond well to Botox injections. This effect is due to both relaxing of the muscles and providing an anti-inflammatory effect from the Botox itself. Small doses of Botox are injected at the site of pain which may include the forehead, brow area, back and sides of the head. Botox has also been found effective in treating the symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) and Chronic lower back pain.
Botox is a natural purified protein derived from bacteria which relaxes specific muscles that cause the pain. It is a non-surgical treatment whereby a small amount of Botox is injected into selected muscles using a very fine needle. Botox temporarily blocks the production of a chemical transmitter which is responsible for transmitting electrical impulses between the nerve and the muscle which permit’s the relaxation of the muscle.
